Your First Appointment with Denise Sargeant: Certified Counsellor and Registered Family and Couples Therapist in Newfoundland
For most people, the first visit to a counsellor will bring up feelings of nervousness and apprehension. This is perfectly normal and expected, given that you are meeting for the first time a person with whom you will share some of your most private experiences. My role as a counsellor is to ensure that you are feeling as safe as possible as we explore what brings you to counselling.
All of the initial paperwork is now completed onilne before your appointment. The forms will be emailed to you once the first appointment is made. If you are unable complete them, we can do so in the first 10 minutes of your first appointment.
At your first appointment, you can expect to be asked about the concerns and issue you want to address in counselling as well as what you have tried in the past to resolve the issue. You will be given the opportunity to share any important information that you believe is important for me to know, as well as the chance to ask any questions you may have.
Together we will negotiate a plan of action based on your goals. This plan will guide the work we do and will be mutually assessed throughout your counselling process.
